Simple Spring Dress

I love sewing for this little lady. She's always super excited when I do and directly puts on whatever is fresh from the sewing machine. It's nice to feel appreciated by my finicky four year old. I also adore simplicity. Ruffles are great and I've been known to smother projects in them but I always go back to the clean and simple. This dress has some of my favorite elements: white peter pan collar, clean lines,  and soft colors. I think she needs a few more for Summer only with short sleeves and biker shorts.

On a less material note: I'm coming to a realization that this little girl is my last little girl. She's not going to let me dress her for too much longer, and I'm going to be honest here, it tugs on my heart strings just a tad.

My kids are growing up and they're doing it so fast it's making me dizzy. I feel at times like I'm being ushered out of an era. An era full of sticky fingers, squishy hugs, and peanut butter kisses. This "era" has been my life for 9 years, but it's changing rapidly to something completely unknown to me. It's sort of bittersweet. I'm glad my kids are learning and growing so much. But it's sad to watch these moments disappear so quickly. I'm ridiculously grateful for these brief moments with my babies and for the opportunity to make a simple spring dress.

  1. Such a sweet dress! This is such a good reminder to me to enjoy things as they are right now--I was just telling my husband yesterday how annoyed I get cleaning up Forrest's messes 50 times a day, and refilling all the drawers he's constantly emptying, and not being able to figure out what he wants when he's whining at me, and he said something like, "You're really going to miss all of that someday, and you'll wish you could do it again." Makes me sad to think of my little baby growing up and leaving me someday!

  3. So funny, I was going to make a raincoat and umbrella for this week's theme. I like your take on it better than mine was. Great job. Good luck in the rest of the competition.
