Running might be a little dramatic

 I've been hovering in the trenches of daily duties as of late. Cleaning, doing mounds of laundry, making dinner, and playing chauffeur. My crafty pursuits have come to a screeching halt which is somewhat ironic being as how I recently re-organized my crafting "spot". {sigh}

Life as a mother and wife can be ridiculously overwhelming sometimes. There's always a mountain of work to do and some days all I can muster is to keep my head above the water to keep from drowning. It's days like that that I count down the minutes until bedtime. Before I had children I envisioned what it would be like to have a family: lullabies every night, milk and cookies, never a raised voice, and unicorns and rainbows (yes, I threw in some sarcasm...surprise)! But you know what? Being a mom isn't easy, and there are moments that I wonder what in the world I was thinking?! Would anyone notice if I ran away? Of course they would, dinner doesn't fix itself!

Nobody warned me of all the difficulties of motherhood. Life at my house is not perfect and there are times when I do shout at the little stinkers {gasp!}. Despite all the stress, work, and frustration of my career choice, I really do love being a mom. Watching my kids laugh together, seeing my four year old share the rest of her smoothie (which was delicious by the way) with her little brother, listening to my son sing his own theme song while playing with Legos, and hearing them express love to each other are some of the moments that make those horrible days fade into the background and seem insignificant. These are the moments that make all the hard work and effort of raising children worthwhile.

  1. Great post! I love reading things like this--I totally understand why so many women want to focus on the positive and not complain about how tough our jobs as wife and mom can be, but that means it gets awfully lonely when all we hear are happy unicorn and rainbow stories while we're stuck in the trenches. Thanks for keeping it real and the reminder that it doesn't have to be perfect to be pretty darn good :-)
